How to Save Money: A Step-by-Step

savings money

It takes report to save money, but just think of the thousands of dollars you can save each year if you start saving money from today. These savings money can pay off debts, or even better, prevent you from getting further into debt. If you are debt free, these savings can go into a retirement fund. Alternatively, this money can afford you a few indulgences, such as a pamper treatment, that were not possible before because of budgetary constraints.

Saving money is an essential part of handling your money responsibly. Many people think that before they start saving, they should have a better job or a raise first, but this is wrong. If you don't save, you are going to spend more money than you are going to make. Here are some things you can do to start saving right away and make it a habit.

The most important tips that will save you money:

1. Set specific targets :
If you set a specific goal for your savings, sticking to it will be easier it. For example, you may be saving money for your child's education, or you need to save money so you can buy a house. If you think that takes a lot of time, why not reward yourself when you have reached your milestone? Such as when you reach $10,000 you go out on a vacation. Then when it reaches $30,000, spend money on something rewarding.

2. Get Motivated :
Saving money in your everyday life, or getting out of debt, is not easy. It is not hard, but it is not easy. One of the biggest things I learned is that the more motivated I became to save money, the faster it happened. You have to want to do it. So many people I've come across that are in financial difficulties I hear muttering phrases like "Oh, its only money" when they waste it or spend it unnecessarily. Those kinds of things drive me nuts. You simply have to want to do it. Once you get going, trust me, it's fun.

3.Garage Sales:
When the weather is right, garage sales are a great place to keep an eye out for your favorite authors, or genres. The price for a used paperback at a garage sale is usually 25 cents or less for a book that would have normally cost you $6.95 brand new.

4. No need to buy newspapers :
Clip coupons from the newspaper or go online and print them out. Online coupon sites are great places to start. Do an online search for them to find your favorites. Use your store reward cards. Try to pair manufacturer coupons with store sales. Buy store brands. Shop dollar stores for canned goods and non food items.

5. Make your own gifts instead of buying stuff from the store:
You can make food mixes, candles, bread, cookies, soap, and all kinds of other things at home quite easily and inexpensively. These make spectacular gifts for others because they involve your homemade touch, plus quite often they’re consumable, meaning they don’t wind up filling someone’s closet with junk. Even better – include a personal handwritten note with the gift. This will make it even more special than anything you could possibly buy down at the mall, plus it saves you money.

6. Shop around :
If I could hand out a single piece of paper with a single message on it to each and every one of the visitors to my site, I would tell them to gather multiple quotes from multiple providers (including smaller chains that don't have big name budgets) and hold them up against each other to find which ones are best for their particular needs. No two drivers, no two homeowners, are exactly the same, and no two insurance policies are ever exactly the same either. Somewhere out there is a perfect fit, but you're never going to find it if you don't shop around!

7. Choose wisely :
The two most common types of insurance that insurance shoppers look for are auto and homeowners, so right now we'll focus on those. It's important to choose wisely when you have the choice. If you can pick between living in the city and living in the suburbs, the suburbs are going to do more to pull in the cost of your insurance. You'll have fewer accidents when you drive and park in a low-traffic area, and the suburbs statistically experience less vandalism than an inner-city environment.

So you're less likely to have a head-on collision or have someone spray paint your car pink. What's not to like?

8. Informed Consumer - More Savings :
Always get the best value for your money. Shop around. If this is a major purchase you will want to know what to look for. Research and compare products on the internet or in sale flyers. There's nothing more challenging to the retailer than an informed consumer. That's what you want to be. An informed consumer knows when it's a good value! Informed Consumer - More Savings
